Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) defines, executes and delivers innovative engineering technology solutions to the entire Boeing enterprise. The Boeing Research & Technology team in Japan specifically supports regional innovation excellence across SE Asia in collaboration with industry, academia, and government partners.
We are seeking a mid-level electromagnetics simulation engineer to join the Digital Engineering team in Japan. This engineer/physicist/mathematician researches and develops technology in Electromagnetic Effects (EME) analysis (simulation) and design for application across the Boeing global enterprise. Areas of focus include: lightning direct and indirect effects, material characterization to electrical effects (high voltage, high current), static charge and relaxation, electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic/radio frequency interference, and multi-physics interactions (heating, material phase changes, structural damage from lightning, etc.). BR&T is tasked with the development and maturation of standard work methods and processes for the Boeing enterprise, which can include liaison with business unit users, development of in-house solvers, application of and converters for commercial tools, development of training packages, and documentation of these.
The EME team is primarily based in the United States, though with ongoing work from Japan and Australia. Weekly interaction with product owners and collaborators will be required.
This position is based in Nagoya and is an open-ended contract.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
Experience with EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) or E3 (Electromagnetic Environmental Effects), simulation environments and methods, digital engineering practices.
Experience in the use of computational electromagnetic modeling (CEM) methods
Experience scripting and/or compiled languages: Python, Matlab, C/C++, JAVA
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English required
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with the software development processes
Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools
Experience with Multi-disciplinary Analysis and Optimization (MDAO) concepts and tools
Experience with physical damage modeling
Experience with lightning direct effects and indirect effects modeling
Experience in the development of CEM software applications
Experience defining EME requirements
Project management experience
Flexibility to learn and work across a variety of aerospace manufacturing technologies and applications
Proven ability to collaborate productively in multidiscipline teaming environments.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in Japanese preferred

Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master + 3 years of related work experience).
Location:
Nagoya, Japan
The selected candidate will be required to work on-site (with some flex) at Boeing Japan’s Nagoya office.
