Event Overview:
Japan is rapidly approaching the era of a 100-year lifespan. This is due in no small part to a world-leading social security system that provides broad access to quality medical care. Advancements in healthcare delivery, including the use of innovative medical technologies, are resulting in healthier and longer lives. Despite these innovations, rising social security costs driven by this hyper-aging society are challenging the sustainability of the current system.
The Government of Japan recently announced plans to discuss major reforms to social security, with a particular focus on the balance between benefits and burdens. While new innovations in medical technologies have the potential to deliver higher quality care and greater workforce productivity, these advancements often come at increased costs. Over the coming years, Japan will be on an important journey to balance benefits and burdens, while continuing to support innovation.
We are pleased to invite Mr. Jun Hitotsumatsu (一松 旬), Director of the Budget Bureau at the Ministry of Finance, to join us in a discussion on the sustainability of Japan’s social security system. He will provide insights from the perspective of the Ministry of Finance, including health and retirement reforms for Japanese citizens.
