Event Overview:
On September 9, we invite Mr. Mikiro Suga for a conversation on his vision and mission in his newly appointed post as the Head of Health and Welfare, JETRO New York. Mr. Suga will share his thoughts on the role of government relations in the life sciences sector. As Health and Welfare head, Mr. Suga plays a vital bridge-building role between Japan and the U.S., acting as an ambassador and diplomat in the life sciences sector.
JETRO, an independent administration institution under the Ministry of Economic, Trade and Industry (METI), first introduced the New York post of Health and Welfare head in 1987. Typically filled by a senior official from the MHLW for a 3-year term, the position remained vacant between 2017 and 2018, and was disbanded for a short period. After significant attention from members of parliament and stakeholders in the private sector, the post was reinstated in November 2019.
