In June 2015, Monica Hsiao founded Triada Capital in Hong Kong. Focused on Asia Credit Opportunities, this hedge fund has achieved unusual success, not only for consistently generating positive investment returns (never a down year; average annual returns above 13%; and +3.2% in the first six months of 2020 versus -1.3% for the Eurekahedge Hedge Fund Index over the same time period), but also for being owned and managed by a leader who happens to be a woman.

The Alternative Investment Committee is exploring a growing body of statistically significant data showing that a small cluster of women-led funds are consistently outperforming male rivals. This trend is particularly noticeable in the Coronavirus Economy. And the outperformance is dramatic as the USD 3 trillion hedge fund industry faces an extreme gender imbalance.

Why is this outperformance happening? Monica is quoted in a recent Financial Times article suggesting this is, “Because we’re a minority and because we’re not part of the boys’ club I think we tend to be a bit more unconventional in our approach.” Are women more risk-averse? Do women put more care into thinking about risk management?

Join our webinar to listen directly to Monica Hsiao, and evaluate these questions for yourself.
