ACCJ Statement on Passing of Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

The ACCJ is deeply saddened by the passing of Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

For nearly three decades, Former Prime Minister Abe was a committed champion of the bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Japan. Due to his skillful leadership and policy efforts, Japan achieved significant economic growth and sustainability, and the U.S.-Japan relationship reached new heights.

His initiatives to promote mutual understanding and collaboration at the highest level had a profound impact and generated pivotal business and social opportunities for the citizens of the U.S. and Japan.

Former Prime Minister Abe was especially devoted to the advancement of women, and he spoke at the 2015 ACCJ Women in Business Summit to reinforce his support for women’s empowerment, saying, “we promise to raise the flag of support for women to shine even brighter.”

We are deeply appreciative of Former Prime Minister Abe’s promotion of friendship and economic ties between our two countries, and for his strong support for women and the international business community in Japan.

We will miss him not only as a steadfast supporter of the U.S.-Japan partnership, but also as a dedicated leader and friend of the Chamber. The ACCJ and our members are privileged to have known him. We honor his legacy and extend our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues, and the people of Japan at this time.
