Does COVID-19 Prove Women Are Best Suited to Lead in a Crisis?

This article published on April 9, 2020 looks at how countries are handling their responses to the COVID-19 crises, and calls out the performances of New Zealand and Germany – both governments are lead by women.

Using the crisis as an example, the article looks at female leadership and asks are New Zealand and Germany outperforming their peers because women leaders are less political, more decisive, more deferential to qualified expertise or cooler in a crisis?

And it goes on to look at female performance against leadership attributes researched by Harvard in a 2019 study where women outscored men in 17 of the 19 attributes. It also notes that women tend to underestimate their capabilities, whereas men do the opposite.
