Hands on Tokyo Noto Peninsula Earthquake School Kit Donation

 
 

Hands on Tokyo is announcing a collaboration with Peace Boat Disaster Relief Center (PBV) http://pbv.or.jp/en/, a Japan based NGO that has had on-the-ground presence since the immediate aftermath of the earthquake. For their first project, they will be giving away stationary kits to all 650 children of the elementary to junior high schools in Suzu city, for support of their new academic year starting in April. Hands on Tokyo is looking for donations and volunteer effort to support the assembly and delivery of these kits.

Donation amount to support the project:

  • 100 kits: ¥500,000

  • 200 kits: ¥900,000

Contents of the kit:

Timeline

  • Friday, March 8: Confirmation of participation deadline

  • Tuesday, March 19: Hands on Tokyo will deliver the contents of the stationary to your company

  • Friday, March 29: Deadline to send out assembled kits directly to Suzu City by express delivery

Participants will be provided shipping address details. Currently, Tokyo to Suzu City deliveries take 1-2 days via Yamato Transport and Sagawa Express. These sets will be distributed to each school through the Suzu City Board of Education.

Situation in Suzu City, as of March 3:

  • Number of people evacuated to shelters: 1375 people in 45 locations (13,635 across Ishikawa Prefecture)

  • Housing damage: 3289 completely destroyed, 1973 partially destroyed, 2581 partially destroyed

  • Water supply is cut off for approximately 4800 households

  • Approximately 530 households are experiencing power outages
