COMMITTEE EXCELLENCE ADVISORY COUNCIL (CEAC)

Committees are the core of what we do as an organization.Committee Excellence Advisory Council (CEAC) plays a key role in the ACCJ strategy to improve member centricity, strengthen advocacy and increase the efficiency of chamber operations to ensure we are maximizing members’ time.

CEAC aims to:

  • Improve the committee experience;

  • Maximize the impact of committees on the ACCJ’s four pillars of networking, information-sharing, advocacy and community; and

  • Establish an objective and transparent process for tracking committee performance.

CEAC has created a framework to execute the objectives above with a focus on supporting committee leaders.

Guidelines

  • The guidelines are a set of minimum expectations for all committees and subcommittees. You can download the guidelines PDF here.

  • In an effort to promote diversity and new leadership development, as a guideline we suggest that committee leaders who have served in the same leadership position for six consecutive years consider stepping aside for a year. A similar guideline already applies to the Board of Governors.

Minimum Expectations
To meet these guidelines, open committees and subcommittees are expected in one calendar year to execute the following strategy. (Closed committees and Task Forces are exempt from the minimum requirements):

2 committee meetings open for committee members
(at least) 2 email messages from leaders to committee members
(at least) 2 touchpoints with committee members*

* Touchpoints can include speaker events, networking events, workshops, committee meetings that are open to all members or publications of advocacy documents (white papers, viewpoints, public comments, etc.).

Important Note: Revisions to the minimums in 2020 ~ 2023

Due to the challenges faced by the Covid-19 pandemic, CEAC has loosened the minimum expectations for 2020 and onwards to the following:

1 committee meeting open for committee members
(at least)
2 email messages from leaders to committee members
(at least)
1 touchpoint with committee members*

Tracking

  • CEAC will provide you with more information to monitor the progress and performance of your committee. After setting goals and targets at the start of the year, you will receive regular support and engagement from your Committee Coordinator.

  • On a bi-annual basis, you will receive relevant responses from an annual committee engagement survey and key metrics.

  • CEAC recommends that you keep the number of events and meetings to maximum 10 a year per committee.

Committee Leadership

One of CEAC’s main goals is to strengthen the leadership pipeline and encourage diversity for all committees:

  • To appoint a new Committee Leader, please submit your request to CEAC. CEAC reviews and submits new leader requests to the Board for approval on a monthly basis.

  • A minimum of 6 months active chamber membership is required before being appointed to a Chair or Co-Chair leadership position. Exceptions are considered given significant contribution to the chamber and strong support for a committee's activities.

  • The Board of Governors requests committee leaders who have served in the same position for six or more consecutive years to consider other roles for next year. This will be your chance to support and educate the next generation of leaders who can continue on your success.

Leadership Forums

Please join the monthly Leadership Forums. This is a good opportunity for you to learn about the current status of the Chamber, and receive updates from your peer committee leaders.

For any questions, please reach out to your Committee Coordinator or email ACCJ Programs team.
